Global aerospace and defence company Paramount has deployed emergency assistance to flood-affected communities in Mozambique, sending a rapid-response rescue boat and disaster-medicine paramedics to support local rescue operations.
The intervention comes after severe flooding left large parts of the country inaccessible by road, displacing communities and disrupting access to medical services and essential supplies. According to the company, its team has been operating on the ground for over a week in coordination with the Mozambican Navy.
The rescue boat has been used to evacuate stranded civilians, transport food and medical supplies, and move injured and vulnerable patients from isolated flood zones to functioning healthcare facilities. Paramedics have also provided on-site treatment for injuries and trauma linked to the flooding.
Paramount said the deployment is part of its corporate social responsibility programme. The company has maintained defence cooperation ties with Mozambique for several years, having previously supplied Mwari aircraft, Marauder armoured personnel carriers, and various rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft, including Mi-8/17 and Mi-24 helicopters, Gazelle helicopters, Let-410 aircraft and CN235 transport aircraft.
The move follows earlier humanitarian interventions by the company in Southern Africa. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Paramount donated food supplies to vulnerable communities in Mozambique, Ghana and Zambia. In 2019, it deployed K9 search-and-rescue teams to eastern Zimbabwe following Cyclone Idai.
Southern Africa has experienced increasingly frequent and severe climate-related disasters in recent years, straining emergency response systems and infrastructure. With road networks cut off in multiple regions of Mozambique, maritime and air-based capabilities have proven critical for reaching isolated populations.
Paramount said it will continue coordinating with local authorities to support ongoing relief efforts as flood response operations continue
