Côte d’Ivoire took another important step in strengthening its national defence capabilities as new military equipment was officially handed over to the Armed Forces of Côte d’Ivoire during a ceremony held at the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The delivery was carried out within the framework of the European Peace Facility (EPF), highlighting the deepening security cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and the European Union.
The ceremony was addressed by Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Téné Birahima Ouattara, speaking on behalf of Mr. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. In his remarks, he underlined the strategic importance of European support in enhancing the operational effectiveness of the country’s armed forces.
Through this assistance, the European Union is actively contributing to the gradual strengthening of Côte d’Ivoire’s defence capabilities, enabling its armed forces to respond more effectively to a wide range of security challenges across the national territory. Particular emphasis is placed on professionalism, operational readiness, and the respect of human rights and international law.
This initiative reflects the European Union’s broader commitment to peace and stability in West Africa, a region facing increasingly complex and multidimensional security threats. By reinforcing institutional capacity and supporting the modernization of defence structures, the EPF plays a key role in building long-term resilience and sustainable security.
