Italian defence manufacturer IDV (Iveco Defence Vehicles) has secured a contract to deliver 860 additional high-mobility tactical logistics trucks to the Romanian Armed Forces, further expanding a long-running procurement programme aimed at modernising Romania’s military transport capabilities.

The contract forms part of a framework agreement signed with the Romanian Ministry of Defence on 30 December 2019, covering the acquisition of more than 2,900 high-mobility military trucks for the country’s armed forces.

Under the programme, Romania has already taken delivery of two major batches of vehicles. The first phase included 942 trucks, while a second batch of 1,107 vehicles has been delivered between 2023 and 2026. The newly announced third batch will see 860 additional vehicles delivered over the next three years, further strengthening the Romanian military’s logistical mobility.

The trucks supplied under the third batch are based on IDV’s High Mobility vehicle range, designed for demanding operational environments and capable of supporting a wide variety of military transport missions. Approximately one third of the vehicles will be equipped with armoured cabins, providing enhanced protection for crews operating in potentially hostile environments.

Modern high-mobility tactical trucks are a critical component of contemporary armed forces, enabling the rapid movement of personnel, equipment, ammunition, and logistical supplies across challenging terrain. Such platforms play a key role in maintaining operational readiness and supporting deployed units during both military operations and humanitarian missions.

The programme also highlights IDV’s growing industrial integration within Romania’s defence ecosystem, with the company working closely with local partners to support production, maintenance, and long-term operational support for the vehicle fleet.

The delivery of more than 2,900 military trucks will significantly enhance Romania’s national defence capabilities, particularly as the country continues to modernise its armed forces in response to evolving security challenges in Eastern Europe and the wider Black Sea region.

For IDV, the Romanian programme further strengthens the company’s position as a leading European supplier of tactical and logistical military vehicles.

Romania is not the only European country expanding its fleet of IDV vehicles. In 2024, the Italian Army signed a contract for 1,453 trucks, which was subsequently expanded in 2025 with an additional 658 vehicles, reflecting continued demand for modern tactical logistics platforms.

Similarly, the Dutch Ministry of Defence selected IDV technology for its army, signing a contract in May 2025 for the delivery of 785 vehicles as part of its own military mobility modernisation programme.

Headquartered in Bolzano, Italy, IDV specialises in the development and production of logistics, protected, and armoured vehicles for military customers worldwide. The company offers a broad portfolio of tactical vehicles designed to meet the diverse operational requirements of modern armed forces.

By combining mobility, protection, and modular design, IDV’s vehicle platforms can be adapted for a wide range of missions, including troop transport, logistics support, command-and-control roles, and specialised defence applications.

With major programmes underway across Europe, the latest Romanian contract underscores the continued importance of high-mobility logistics vehicles in modern military operations, where the ability to rapidly deploy and sustain forces remains a decisive factor in operational effectiveness.
