The French Defence Attaché to Ghana, Colonel Gregoire Madelin, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) William Agyapong, on Thursday 12 March 2026 at the General Headquarters.

The visit was aimed at discussing issues of mutual interest and strengthening bilateral relations between France and by extension, its Armed Forces and the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Colonel Madelin expressed sympathy with GAF personnel currently serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) following recent developments in the operational theatre.
He also highlighted the coordinated roles played by the French and GAF in the rescue of fishermen from Senya Beraku during a pirate attack. He called for increased collaboration between both Armed Forces in capacity building to enhance maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.

Other matters discussed included capacity building in cyber technology, ground-to-air protection of Forward Operating Bases, and the use of Artificial Intelligence in French language training.

The CDS expressed his profound gratitude to the French Armed Forces (FAF), through the Defence Attaché, for their swift support to the Ghana Navy in the rescue of the fishermen. He also acknowledged the Defence Attaché’s office for the seamless travel preparations relating to the acquisition of the recently acquired Airbus H175 helicopter.
He assured the Defence Attaché of the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to collaborate on all issues of mutual interest.
