Rheinmetall has reinforced its position at the forefront of indirect fire innovation with the successful execution of its Rheinmetall Nordic Mortar Day, held in winter 2026 in Rena, Norway. The event brought together high-level representatives from armed forces, government authorities and defence industry partners from five NATO nations—Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands and Germany.

At the centre of the live-fire demonstration were the 120 mm Ragnarök mortar system and the newly developed Mortar Mission Module, both designed to deliver a scalable, European solution for modern battlefield requirements. Demonstrated under harsh Arctic conditions—including double-digit sub-zero temperatures and high humidity—the systems showcased exceptional performance in speed, precision and operational reliability.

A key highlight was the Mortar Mission Module integrated onto a Rheinmetall HX truck platform. The system demonstrated advanced “shoot-and-scoot” capability, allowing operators to rapidly engage targets and relocate immediately after firing, significantly enhancing survivability in contested environments. Its platform- and barrel-independent architecture ensures flexibility, enabling seamless integration across a wide range of existing and future vehicle platforms.

Designed with operational efficiency in mind, the Mortar Mission Module offers rapid deployment, simplified logistics and high accuracy, making it a practical and cost-effective solution for European armed forces seeking to enhance indirect fire capabilities without extensive infrastructure changes.

The demonstration also underscored the growing importance of European defence cooperation in response to evolving geopolitical challenges. Rheinmetall Nordic highlighted the need for interoperable, rapidly deployable systems that strengthen collective defence while supporting Europe’s strategic autonomy.

Commenting on the event, Rheinmetall Nordic CEO Morten Kjorum emphasised the urgency of delivering user-focused solutions tailored to modern operational demands. He noted that the Mortar Mission Module is the result of close collaboration between Rheinmetall and European industry partners, combining technological excellence with shared strategic objectives.

With a scalable global production footprint, Rheinmetall is well positioned to meet increasing demand for advanced indirect fire systems while ensuring resilient and sovereign supply chains—further supporting NATO and European defence readiness in an increasingly complex security environment.
