The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has reinforced its drive for stronger international defence cooperation through participation in the inaugural Brussels European Defence Exhibition (BEDEX) 2026, held in Brussels, Belgium. Staged close to key European Union institutions and NATO headquarters, the exhibition brought together defence stakeholders from across Europe and beyond, providing a high-level platform for dialogue, networking and industrial engagement.

Leading the Kenyan delegation, Director of National Defence and Security Industries (DNSI) Major General Faustino Lobaly engaged international partners on opportunities for bilateral and multilateral cooperation. Discussions focused on technology transfer, research collaboration, capacity building, and partnerships with private industry and academic institutions—areas seen as essential to enhancing Kenya’s defence industrial base and strengthening long-term force readiness.

KDF said its participation at BEDEX 2026 was aligned with the Chief of the Defence Forces’ strategic vision, particularly in the fields of force capability development, defence industries and strategic partnerships. Through meetings with stakeholders in the Brussels defence ecosystem, the Kenyan delegation explored opportunities linked to advanced military technologies, industrial growth and joint research initiatives aimed at boosting operational effectiveness.

The engagements also addressed evolving security threats, including terrorism associated with Al-Shabaab, as well as cyber warfare and information operations. Particular attention was given to innovation in drone systems, communications technologies and cyber defence capabilities, reflecting Kenya’s broader effort to modernise its armed forces in response to a changing threat environment.

KDF’s presence at the Brussels event underscored its commitment to building a modern and increasingly self-reliant force through strategic international partnerships, while leveraging global expertise to enhance Kenya’s national security and defence preparedness.
