The Military Operations Command has once again demonstrated its operational superiority on the international stage, securing first place for the third consecutive year at the prestigious Equatorial Patrol 2026 multinational challenge, held in Gabon from 9 to 20 March 2026.

Bringing together elite military teams from across Africa and Europe, the annual competition featured participation from eight nations, each represented by highly trained units of eight personnel. Alongside the host nation Gabon, which fielded four teams from its Armed Forces and Republican Guard, the event welcomed contingents from Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, France, Ghana and Chad.

Over the course of ten days, participating teams were subjected to a rigorous series of physical and tactical challenges designed to simulate real-world operational conditions. These included obstacle and endurance courses, mangrove navigation exercises, close-quarters battle and intervention techniques, survival training, precision marksmanship, topography and navigation, as well as a final team synthesis exercise integrating all acquired skills.

The winning team, led by Sub-Lieutenant Fonkwa Edmond, entered the competition as defending champions, carrying the distinction of two consecutive victories. Demonstrating exceptional discipline, cohesion and determination, the unit delivered a dominant performance across all phases of the challenge, securing a decisive win.

This third consecutive victory further enhances the reputation of the Defence Forces at both regional and international levels. It reflects a sustained commitment to excellence, professionalism and operational readiness—qualities consistently fostered under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff.
