The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reinforced its commitment to operational modernisation, enhanced combat readiness and strategic defence cooperation through its participation at the SAHA 2026 International Defence and Aerospace Exhibition, held in Istanbul, Türkiye, from 5–9 May 2026. Led by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the NAF delegation engaged with global defence and aerospace stakeholders at one of the world’s foremost defence industry platforms.
With more than 1,700 exhibitors and delegations from over 120 countries, SAHA 2026 provided an important platform for the NAF to deepen international partnerships, assess emerging technologies and identify solutions relevant to Nigeria’s evolving security environment. The exhibition also offered the Service an opportunity to engage directly with manufacturers, system integrators and technology providers whose capabilities align with the NAF’s current and future operational requirements.
During the exhibition, the NAF delegation held extensive engagements with leading Turkish defence companies and other key industry stakeholders. Discussions focused on critical operational areas including C-130 fleet sustainment, T-129 ATAK helicopter support, unmanned aerial vehicle acquisition and local production, flight simulation systems, air defence solutions, precision-guided weapon integration and
ammunition sustainment. These areas are central to sustaining ongoing operations and ensuring that the NAF remains capable of responding effectively to complex security threats.
The engagements also explored opportunities for technology transfer, indigenous capacity development and long-term strategic partnerships. For the NAF, strengthening local technical capacity remains a key priority, particularly as the Service continues to enhance self-reliance in maintenance,
training and operational support. Greater cooperation with international defence partners can contribute to improved technical expertise, reduced dependence on external support and more sustainable capability development.
As Nigeria continues to confront security challenges including insurgency, terrorism and other asymmetric threats, air power remains a critical component of national defence. Improved fleet serviceability, enhanced precision strike capability, reliable logistics support and advanced training systems are essential to mission success. The operational insights gained at SAHA 2026 are therefore expected to support the NAF’s ongoing efforts to improve readiness and effectiveness across multiple mission areas.
The participation of the Nigerian Air Force at SAHA 2026 further demonstrates the Service’s determination to build a modern, agile and mission-ready air force. By pursuing strategic partnerships, adopting emerging technologies and investing in indigenous capacity, the NAF continues to strengthen its ability to safeguard Nigeria’s airspace, support joint and multi-domain operations, and contribute effectively to national security objectives.
