Rheinmetall has strengthened its position in the global market for deployable military medical infrastructure after securing a major contract from the Kingdom of Morocco for the delivery of seven highly mobile field hospitals. The agreement, signed in June 2026 through Rheinmetall Mobile Systeme GmbH, represents another significant export success for the company and highlights the growing international demand for rapidly deployable medical capabilities that can operate in both military and humanitarian environments.

The contract, valued in the mid double-digit million-euro range, calls for the delivery of seven complete field hospital systems between 2027 and 2028. One hospital will be supplied to the Moroccan Ministry of Defence, while the remaining six will be delivered to the Ministry of the Interior. Distribution and delivery within Morocco will be carried out in cooperation with a local medical equipment partner.

The systems are based on Rheinmetall’s proven mobile medical facilities that were originally developed for military operations and have since been extensively field-tested by the Ukrainian Armed Forces under demanding operational conditions. Their successful deployment in Ukraine has demonstrated their ability to withstand harsh transportation environments while providing advanced medical care close to the front line or in disaster-affected areas.

Designed for maximum mobility and operational flexibility, the field hospitals can be transported entirely on trucks and rapidly deployed wherever required. Depending on operational needs, the systems can also be expanded with military tents to create larger treatment facilities beyond the vehicle-mounted infrastructure. The modular design allows exceptionally short assembly and dismantling times, enabling medical teams to establish fully operational treatment centres within a very limited timeframe.

At the heart of each hospital is a self-contained operating theatre complex housed within expandable shelter modules. Once deployed, the shelters transform into a fully functional medical centre equipped with a modern operating theatre, an intensive care unit and sterilisation facilities. These core medical capabilities are complemented by additional patient wards and specialist medical services, including radiology, laboratory and pharmacy facilities, together with ophthalmology, dental and ear, nose and throat (ENT) clinics. Each hospital is also equipped with a computed tomography (CT) scanner, significantly enhancing its diagnostic capabilities in forward-deployed environments.

A key advantage of the Rheinmetall system is its ability to operate independently for extended periods. Each field hospital incorporates its own power generation, water treatment and oxygen supply systems, allowing medical personnel to maintain continuous operations even in areas where local infrastructure has been damaged or is entirely unavailable. Military accommodation and sanitation facilities are also included, enabling complete self-sufficient deployment in both urban and remote operational environments.

The programme underscores Morocco’s continued investment in strengthening its military medical capabilities while also improving national emergency response capacity. Beyond supporting military operations, the deployable hospitals can be used during natural disasters, humanitarian crises and public health emergencies, providing advanced medical treatment whenever permanent healthcare facilities become inaccessible or overwhelmed.

Commenting on the agreement, Armin Krenn described the contract as both strategically and humanitarianly significant. He noted that the systems not only save lives during military conflicts but also play a crucial role in maintaining emergency healthcare services when conventional hospitals are unable to function. He added that Rheinmetall had worked closely with its Moroccan customer to develop a mission-oriented solution tailored to the operational requirements of the Royal Medical Service.

The Moroccan order further expands Rheinmetall’s international portfolio of mobile medical solutions and demonstrates how operational experience gained from recent conflicts is being translated into advanced deployable healthcare capabilities for customers around the world.
