The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has commissioned a new fleet of aircraft into the UPDF Air Force, marking another important step in the modernisation of Uganda’s military aviation capabilities.

The newly inducted fleet includes the LET L-410 twin-engine transport aircraft, designed to enhance the Air Force’s operational flexibility and logistical efficiency by improving the transport of personnel, equipment and essential supplies.

The versatile aircraft can perform a wide range of missions, including medical evacuation with capacity for up to six stretcher patients and three seated patients, passenger transport for up to 19 personnel, VIP transport for eight passengers, cargo operations and paratrooper deployment.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Air Force, Lt Gen Charles Okidi, the Chief of Staff Air Force, and a delegation from OMNIPOL led by Chairman Ondrej Panenka, together with Mr. Valentin and Mr. Humphrey Nzeyi.

During the ceremony, General Kainerugaba called on UPDF Air Force personnel to maintain the new aircraft to the highest operational standards and expressed his appreciation to OMNIPOL for delivering the aircraft two months ahead of schedule.

The induction of the new LET L-410 aircraft reflects Uganda’s continued investment in strengthening its air mobility, logistics and humanitarian response capabilities while reinforcing its broader military modernisation programme through international defence cooperation.
